FMEAs and Control Plans Key to IATF 16949 Implementation

The IATF 16949 was released in October 2016 and organizations have to be conforming to this standard by their next audit anniversary past October, 2017. The IATF 16949 is the biggest change in quality management system standards in the Automotive Industry since the QS 9000 standard. One important feature of this standard is the number of times FMEAs and Control Plans are mentioned. Infact, FMEAs or Control Plans or both are mentioned in 26 places of the IATF 16949 standard. Here are some key facts of the standard –

  1. Design FMEAs need to link with Process Flow, PFMEAs and Control Plans
  2. Corrective Action need to update FMEAs
  3. RPN reduction plan are a key to Continual Improvement
